8th Grade Math
The main focus of 8th grade math is algebra. The 8-1 group is correcting the summer work, reviewing, and testing on chapters 1 and 2, before proceeding to chapter 3. The 8-2 and 8-3 groups are reviewing decimals and fractions before starting the algebra curriculum. During the first trimester, the 8-2 and 8-3 groups will work with the Understanding Math software once a week in either the computer lab or in the classroom with the laptops.
Your child should have either written or study home work each night. A good study habit is to review the notes and examples from class or from the book before beginning each assignment. I require that all chapter tests be corrected and then signed by the parents.
I am available for extra help before school from 7:30 until 8:00 and also after school until 3:30 most days except for Tuesdays. We also have the flex period on Wednesdays when students may see any teacher for extra help.
7th Grade Religion
The seventh grade religion focuses on Jesus. Presently, we are studying what faith means to each of us and making a collage illustrating this. Then we will display them in the classroom.
The 7th grade Stewardship project concerns homelessness. During September, we will study about homelessness and the various organizations that help people. Then during October, we will collect used coats to donate to a shelter.

8th Graders Working With Buddies
Once a month the eighth graders meet with the kindergarteners to work on projects. Our December blanket project was really worth the time spent during religion class. Our counselor, Mrs. Faley, took 4 of our 8th graders to Kosair Hospital so that they could deliver all of our blankets. They met and spoke with patients and their parents. Then they shared this experience with the rest of us. Our 8th graders gave service to their community and also to their school as they worked on their blankets with their kindergarten buddies and taught them to tie knots.
